Nearly 200 years ago, Luther Rice raised the necessary funding and lobbied President James Monroe and Congress to make George Washington’s vision of a university in the heart of our nation’s capital a reality. The Luther Rice Society is named in his honor and is a vital connection among GW alumni, friends, and students.
The Luther Rice Society celebrates philanthropic leadership. Since its inception in 1968, LRS members have contributed millions of dollars to GW. These members comprise alumni, parents, and friends who are proud of GW’s rich history, passionate about its current students and faculty, and dedicated to shaping its future.
Annual leadership gifts transform the lives of students by providing scholarship funds, advancing cutting-edge research, and providing the “only-at-GW” moments that define the premier university in our nation’s capital.
